The Field Skillet is a meticulously designed, smoother, lighter cast iron pan reminiscent of the best vintage American skillets—but with a modern twist. This is your new everyday pan and it will get continuously better the more you use it. Designed for Field Company in collaboration with Prime Studio.
This was a great opportunity to learn about cast iron material and manufacturing to ensure the final design could be manufactured consistently and efficiently. The clients had spent over a year researching vintage skillets, metallurgy, seasoning techniques etc., so we also got a deep knowledge dump from them.
The cooking surface of every Field Skillet is machined and polished to achieve a premium, non-stick surface. This process also helps create the appearance of a slimmer, lighter skillet.
The Field Skillet was a fun project to work on and gave me the opportunity to learn about cast iron cookware and manufacturing. This was the first product for Field Company and would set the foundation for the brand. The Field Company Kickstarter campaign earned over $300,000 in 10 days, exceeding its original goal of $30,000.
